Such Sadness in this World of Ours

The Massacre at Sandy Hook School

He killed the little children

in their classrooms and in the halls.

Their small bodies hurled down

from the hundreds of bullets

popping in and out of his guns.

He killed the children, so cruel

when one hears the words, then

the horror of the pictures

and the everlasting television reports.

How many ways can we hear these words?

He killed the children and a teacher

who gathered her first graders behind her

like any mother would do with their children,

and she was killed, she was killed as she

placed her body in front of her boys and girls.

He killed himself, too. How hard to feel any

emotion for a mentally skewed mind; he

killed the little children. We would

have preferred to take him alive

find all the torture ideas

from each of the parents, brothers and sisters

and friends to wage hate and wrath on him

rather than a fast single shot to his brain.

Too easy, too easy
